Step into the New “Crown Jewel” of San Francisco Nightlife - The Great Northern Opens Sept 16

The Great Northern - San Francisco, CA - San Francisco’s celebrated Design District springs to life as the imaginative visionaries behind famed cocktail bar/nightclub, Monarch SF and Monarch Beverage Catering, unveil their latest exhilarating foray into the nightlife industry: The Great Northern. Opening its doors for the first time this Friday September 16, SF’s most exciting new venue kicks off its inaugural weekend of musical mayhem and whimsical escapades with its premiere celebration, Smoke n’ Mirrors, which will bring together legends of the underground deep house and techno scene, Thugfucker, Galen, Shiny Objects, DJ M3 + more artists TBA.

Residing in the space once held by SF’s iconic club, Mighty, at 119 Utah Street, the venue has been completely re-imagined to encompass an experience beyond your average dance club. Redesigned as a multi-faceted music venue and event space, The Great Northern is a delicate balance of creativity, functionality and cutting-edge design. The aesthetic is described as “Future Deco,”fusing modern technology with quintessential art deco themes reminiscent of the roaring 20s, The Great Northern features two tantalizing bars to whet the palette, a massive dance floor, and towering 30-foot high ceilings to dazzle seasoned bar vets and nightclub newbies alike. Installations and features were designed by the illustrious One Hat, One Hand team of creative wizards, giving The Great Northern an overall vibe of sleek elegance with specialty touches including a stunning center chandelier, dramatic molded archways, beautiful stained glass and mosaics, and meticulous inspiration ranging from French Deco to Goth Deco. Every intricate design element perfectly encapsulates the creative team’s vision in achieving a composition of both classic modern style and Art Nouveau.

Elevating the standards for nightlife in San Francisco and beyond, The Great Northern will also feature a new state-of-the-art custom 80,000 watt Void Acoustics sound system with next level LED lighting and custom projection mapping - designed to fully immerse the body and awaken the senses deep into the early hours of dawn within the walls of what is sure to be the most hi-fidelity nightclub in existence.

Featuring new takes on classic craft cocktails and a very unique and limited table service program, The Great Northern combines an understated elegance with attention to detail and excellence in customer service that is often overlooked in today’s larger format nightlife venues. In the coming month, the front bar will host Happy Hour for guests to enjoy a vast selection of specialty drink concoctions before large floor to ceiling curtains part to unveil and open up the entirety of the venue.

The Great Northern looks ahead to deliver top weekly programming to include both music and live-performance acts. As Om Record Label Owner and Co-founder Chris Smith describes, “We’re looking forward to creating a nightlife experience that is something different and interesting, which we’d be excited to attend. The Great Northern is a complete creative vision both physically and sonically. The design concept is threaded through the entire venue which is not a typical night club. It’s set up as a  performance venue which can house DJ and electronic music artists, but can also showcase live music bands, indie rock, jazz, as well as, private events and everything in between. The space is totally modular and can be used for so many different things. San Francisco is so diverse musically and we’re excited to be able to work with all of those scenes.”

The grand opening Smoke n’ Mirrors event on September 16 will set the standard and guide revelers into what’s to come into the future. A sampling of other upcoming Great Northern events include a monthly residence performance by Beats Antique, The Do-Over Block Party on September 18, the Outer Limits block party with the world’s best underground DJs including Dixon, Danny Daze, KiNK + more on October 8 and 9, and a performance from house legend John Digweed on December 9.

IK Multimedia announces iRig HD 2 - the iPhone 7 ready, pro-quality digital guitar interface for iPhone, iPad, Mac & PC

iRig HD 2 provides plug & play simplicity with 96kHz sound, integrated headphone output, a 1/4" amp out with dual mode switch, plus full AmpliTube versions and more

September 15, 2016IK Multimedia, the pioneer and leader of the mobile music revolution, is pleased to announce iRig HD 2 — the sequel to the best-selling, wildly popular iRig HD digital guitar interface for iPhone, iPad, Mac & PC. The iRig HD 2 raises the bar for guitarists and bassists to play, perform and record with their device at a higher level either while on the go or in their studio.

24-bit/96kHz pristine noiseless sound
First and foremost, iRig HD 2 gives players superior sound quality in a compact, mobile interface.  It features 24-bit analog-to-digital conversion and a best-in-class 96kHz sample rate that delivers an ultra clean, pure noiseless guitar signal to devices and computers. It features an input gain control for dialing in just the right amount of signal for playing and recording and a multicolor LED indicator for precise signal monitoring.

Integrated headphone output, iPhone 7 ready
iRig HD 2 includes a Lightning cable to connect directly to your iPhone and features an integrated headphone output jack with a preamp and level control. For newer devices like the iPhone 7 without a dedicated headphone output, this lets players use their existing headphones to monitor their playing and recording, or for just listening to music.  The output features a high-quality headphone preamp with a volume control that delivers the full, rich complete audio content.

Amp Out with dual mode switch
iRig HD 2 also sports a new Amp Out jack that lets players use their iPhone, iPad, Mac or PC live on stage with a traditional guitar amplifier without the need for special adapters — a standard ¼” instrument cable is all that is needed to make the connection. This output is controlled by a new FX/Thru switch that lets users choose what type of signal is sent — FX sends the processed signal coming from the device, while Thru sends an unprocessed direct signal for using a tuner or in-line recording of the dry signal. iRig HD 2 also comes with a mic stand mounting bracket and Velcro® strip for convenient attachment to a mic stand on stage for live performance.

Full AmpliTube included
iRig HD 2 owners also receive free downloads of the full versions of the ultimate guitar and bass tone and recording studio - AmpliTube 4 for Mac/PC (a $/€149.99 value) and AmpliTube for iPhone and iPad (a $/€19.99 value for each).  With AmpliTube, guitar and bass players will have access to a whole new universe of gear: stompboxes, amps, cabinets, microphones, speakers, rack effects and more, all on their computer or mobile device. All versions of AmpliTube are expandable with gear from some of the top manufacturers in the industry like Fender®, Orange®, MESA/Boogie®, Ampeg®, T-Rex®, Fulltone®, Seymour Duncan® and more.

Pricing and availability
iRig HD 2 is available now for pre-order from IK Retailers worldwide or from the online IK store for only $/€99.99*. iRig HD 2 will be available and shipping late September, 2016.

Once players register their iRig HD 2, they can download the full version of AmpliTube 4 for Mac/PC from their user area on the IK web site.  Users should install the Free versions of AmpliTube for iPhone and iPad from the App Store, and once the iRig HD 2 is registered and plugged in, they can “restore purchases” and the full version features of both will be available.

For long playing sessions, iRig HD 2 is compatible with iRig PowerBridge ($/€ 69.99) which keeps the iOS device charged while playing, as well as other IK accessories to complete a live guitar set up like the iRig BlueBoard wireless pedal board ($/€99.99), and the iKlip range of mic stand holders for iPhone and iPad (starting at $/€ 39.99).

Ear Trumpet Labs Celebrates Five-Year Anniversary

2016 Includes 100% Sales Growth, Placements with Top Artists and a New Product Launch

PORTLAND, ORIt is rare in the pro audio world for a company, of any size, to be able to boast a 100% sales growth, yet that is exactly what boutique microphone company, Ear Trumpet Labs (ETL) continues to achieve. ETL will celebrate their 5-year anniversary this fall touting that exciting news along with many other accomplishments that paint the picture of a thriving company with an enthusiastic and growing customer base. For the past three years ETL has doubled in sales every year, and 2016 is no exception.
Founded by Philip Graham, ETL’s workshop is based in Portland, OR, where a small team meticulously handcrafts each microphone. Their impressive sound and signature style has landed them on stages and in studios across the world with a growing list of artist enthusiasts including Andra Day, Elvis Costello, Violent Femmes, Brandi Carlisle, Jason Mraz, The Milk Carton Kids, and Old Crow Medicine Show. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill chose ETL’s Edwina and Chantelle models when they performed a memorable duet at the 2014 ACM Awards and in 2016 the Infamous Stringdusters selected Edwina and Myrtle for their performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
The story of Ear Trumpet is personified through their fearless leader, Philip Graham, who, like so many innovators, made the jump from a steady career to pursuing his passion. "It was an improbable leap five years ago to quit my job and try to make a full-time business out of the basement tinkering that had kept me sane as a software engineer,” he recalls. “I look around now with surprise and an abiding sense of good fortune at our beautiful workshop space and the craftspeople building dozens of mics each week.”
