Peter Fredriksson Mixes “Crossover Concerts” with Allen & Heath

Peter Fredriksson is a Swedish FOH and monitor engineer who frequently mixes monitors for Scandinavian conductor and arranger Hans Ek using an Allen & Heath dLive S Class S5000 Surface and DM64 MixRack. Conductor Ek’s “Bowie in Berlin” concerts pay tribute to David Bowie’s famous Berlin Trilogy in a classical setting with a full symphony orchestra, band, choir and vocalists.

Fredriksson notes, “If you are going to do an engineered crossover concert like this, it’s better to mic the whole orchestra instead of just parts. So we have as many as 100 live microphones on stage.”To manage these inputs, Fredriksson uses a pair of DX32 Expanders for the choir and the band and six DX168 Expanders for the orchestra. This gives him a flexible input system while minimizing mic cable length. The DX32 and DX168 Expanders connect to the DM64 MixRack and Fredriksson sends a split via Allen & Heath’s gigaACE network to FOH engineer Hans Surte Norin who mixes on another Allen & Heath dLive S5000.

Many of the vocalists and band members have in-ear monitors and Fredriksson often adds reverb to his in-ear mixes to give the performers the feeling that they’re in the room with the orchestra. He notes, “Our next goal is to try to do the whole orchestra with in-ear monitors with groups of musicians sharing monitor mixes. This will give us lower volumes on stage and reduced leakage from monitors into open microphones resulting in a tighter and better sound experience for the audience.”

For smaller concerts and fly gigs, Fredriksson owns a dLive C Class C1500 Surface which has the same workflow as the S5000 in a reduced footprint. He uses the C1500’s layers, soft keys and DCA Spill feature to manage inputs and adds a dLive IP8 Remote Controller for extra faders when needed. “The DCA Spill helps me switch quite fast between the DCA groups,” he says.

Fredriksson commented, “The dLive is a really flexible system. You can patch anything to anywhere and I found it quite easy to get into the menus and the work flow with the drag-n-drop. And it sounds great. The artists say they can hear everything – all the small details.”

Whilst Ableton have just started announcing the line up for this years Loop conference (wish we were there) the idea for our Isotonik Sound Store began during our trip to Berlin last year. We were humbled to be invited and nervous for our own talk but once that was over we met an amazing bunch of people running blogs about Ableton Live from all around the world.

Our simple idea was to bring together as many of the people that we had admired over the years of working with Live in one place to release extremely high quality Ableton Live Packs. I couldn't do it on my own though, it's enough keeping up with the output of the existing members of the collective, and so i roped in existing collective member Animus Inviduous of PerforModule to be the curator of the new Isotonik Sound Store.

He's been instrumental in gathering together an absolute star studded squad of artists and bloggers to release packs and today we announce the second member joining Flintpope in the line up, the prolific and legendary AfroDJMac!

Animus has carefully worked through every pack released through the AfroDJMac store to date, deconstructed them, mastered the content and repackaged them in a set of ultimate Ableton Live Packs.

The first collection is ADM Drums, a collection of 151 Drum Racks +1430 Loops + 80 MIDI Clips + 4 inst racks + 2333 drum hits!! In one singular pack you're pretty much sorted for all your Drum needs.

Not only that but in re-organising them, you'll quickly find what you need through the Live browser or even the Push!
Have a watch of the video to see how this can supercharge you workflow and quickly turn your ideas into realities!

Out Now: Black Girl / White Girl - oDD Prophets EP released on Dessert Hearts Records

Dessert Hearts Records has released oDD Prophets EP from Dutch duo Black Girl / White Girl.

There's a little stigma about the Tech House genre right now with so many copycat sounding tracks flooding the market, but Black Girl / White Girl have been able to tap into everything that is good about one of our favorite genres. It's fast, it's trippy, it's chugging, and it beats dance floors the fuck up.

Tickets go on-sale starting Friday, July 13 at 10:00AM local time. Further PUBLIC IMAGE LTD activity includes the release of THE PUBLIC IMAGE IS ROTTEN a career–spanning box set (out July 20) and a new documentary film of the same name, the latter of which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York and at London’s Raindance Festival. View the trailer for THE PUBLIC IMAGE IS ROTTEN film (here).

THE PUBLIC IMAGE IS ROTTEN: NORTH AMERICAN TOUR arrives on the heels of the band’s current headlining UK/Europe tour which has included a number of sold-out shows as well as festival performances and Japanese dates. The group’s worldwide tour in 2016 was regarded by many as the best performances the band have ever played; it followed the release of their 10th studio album ‘What The World Needs Now…’ (2015) and the critically-acclaimed ‘This is PiL’ (2012) which marked the band’s first album in 17 years. ‘What The World Needs Now’ peaked at number 29 in the official UK album charts and picked up fantastic acclaim worldwide from both the press and public. (The album also peaked at number 3 in the official UK indie charts and number 4 in the official UK vinyl charts). ‘What The World Needs Now…’ was self-funded by PiL and released on their own label ‘PiL Official’ via Cargo UK Distribution.

Widely regarded as one of the most innovative and influential bands of all time, PiL’s music and vision earned them 5 UK Top 20 singles and 5 UK Top 20 albums. With a shifting line-up and unique sound, JOHN LYDON guided the band from their debut album ‘First Issue’ in 1978 through to 1992’s ‘That What Is Not’. After a 17-year hiatus, LYDON reactivated PiL in 2009 by taking them back on the road worldwide.

JOHN LYDON, LU EDMONDS, SCOTT FIRTH and BRUCE SMITH continue as PiL and remain the longest stable line-up in the band’s history.

PUBLIC IMAGE LTD is:
John Lydon - After fronting the Sex Pistols, John Lydon formed Public Image Ltd in 1978. Outside of PiL John has released several solo records and collaborations. He also brings quality TV to the masses and has recently released the autobiography ‘Anger is an Energy: My Life Uncensored’.

EG Vines Announces Debut Album Conversation First Single “Me and You” Available Now

NASHVILLE, Tenn. July 10, 2018 Today, EG Vines announces his debut album and forthcoming EP Conversation. Vines made his mark in Nashville as a member of rock band The Bandoliers; not only is Conversation his debut as a solo artist, but a statement on empathy, compassion, and greater understanding between people. Set for release on August 17, 2018, Vines teamed up with producer Eddie Spear (The Delta Saints, Dave Cobb) and noted studio musicians Leroy Powell, Chris Powell, and Brian Allen to create the five song masterpiece. EG Vines recently released “Me and You,” the first single from Conversation; the full album is available for vinyl pre-order today.

According to EG Vines, the lack of empathetic communication is at the root of a lot of our problems. “All this division, and the words that we use/the lines for no reason between me and you/well I won’t believe that this is the best we can do”, sings Vines on his upcoming record. From the funky “Tell Me Something Brother”, to the slow burning “Reconcile”, Vines is on a mission for more understanding on his debut solo EP Conversation

Vines is originally from Jonesboro, Arkansas. “It’s a small, religious town, somewhere that the same families have inhabited for generations,” he says, “There’s more churches than houses in that place.” Growing up, Vines was heavily involved in the Church of Christ, which is where he first became interested in music composition. “The music is all A Capella, so it really gave me an appreciation for vocal harmony and layering,” he explains.

His religious upbringing, his time spent at a large state school, and almost a decade of living in a progressive city have given Vines perspective. Having so many close family members and friends with such strong, and often opposing, beliefs helps him understand different outlooks on many current social and political conversations – even when he may not agree with everything (or anything) that is being said. “A lot of friends of mine, maybe we have a little bit of different viewpoints just because of the things we’ve seen in our lives,” he explains, “And I’m usually the type of person who will say something if I see a statement that is just not how I see the world, but I think we all find a way to respect each other’s opinions.”

Vines’ ability to hear others viewpoints served him well when he began the search for a producer of his first solo EP. After playing and writing with rock outfit The Bandoliers for half a decade, life pulled the bandmates in different directions, leaving Vines in search of a new way to present his original material. “I felt like my songs never quite reached their full potential in the band, so for a couple years I spent most of my free time writing, I wrote for hours every day.”

Finally, when he felt that he had a group of songs he was ready to record, Vines reached out to producer Eddie Spear, who he admired for his work with The Delta Saints and Dave Cobb. Spear was skeptical at first, he told Vines that although there was a lot of good components, some of the songs weren’t quite working for him, and he gave him some classic records to listen to as homework. Rather than take offense, Vines took the advice to heart. He listened deeply, wrote more, and worked harder on honing his craft. That initial conversation turned into a powerful creative collaboration. Over the next few months, the songs on Conversation were born and Spear agreed to produce the EP.

“If you try to really hear someone out and not condemn a viewpoint before giving your opinion, that always works a little better,” Vines explains. We can only hope that Vines empathetic message is heard out, and paves the way for many more meaningful conversations.

Tour Dates:
July 12 – Nashville, TN – The Basement
August 4 – Bowling Green, KY – Tidball’s
August 17 – Atlanta, GA – Smith’s Olde Bar
September 28 – Nashville, TN – The 5 Spot

RYAN KINDER WRAPS LEGENDARY SUMMER WITH FOGERTY, ZZ TOP, CLAPTON, SANTANA, GARY CLARK, JR. AND MORE

L-R:  Kinder on stage at British Summer Time at Hyde Park Festival
L-R:  Kinder on stage at British Summer Time at Hyde Park Festival
Ryan Kinder has enjoyed an unforgettable summer touring with some of his biggest musical heroes John Fogerty and ZZ Top. Kinder recently wrapped the 22-city run with a stop in London, where he opened the 2018 British Summer Time at Hyde Park Festival featuring iconic legends Eric Clapton, Santana and Gary Clark, Jr

"I would have been thrilled just standing side-stage each night," says Kinder. "But getting to share the same stage with those legendary musicians was a greater experience than I could have ever imagined. And, getting to talk music with Fogerty and Billy [Gibbons] still doesn't seem real."

Kinder, whose powerful vocals and nimble guitar skills have been critically praised by Amazon, Billboard, CMT, Pandora, PEOPLE, Rolling Stone Country and Spotify, to name a few, is set to release his next single to country radio later this summer.

Order Explorer on Fat Beats

Con Brio never set out to be a political band. To be sure, Paradise contained songs about inequality and the Black Lives Matter movement. In a world divided, Con Brio has set out to find a way to bring love, positivity, and compassion through uplifting, sultry rhythms, and lyrics. It makes sense that Consequence of Sound has called them “a party punk version of Sly and the Family Stone.

“United State of Mind” reflects directly on America’s current political moment, urging strength and perspective in the face of cynicism and apathy. It’s also a song that was created to be played on dance floors across the world.  Over a cheerful guitar lick from Benjamin Andrews, the former track sings the praises of travel, the ways it can make the world feel bigger and smaller all at once — and how sometimes you have to leave home to see it with fresh eyes.

Explorer, out today, July 6th, is Con Brio’s sophomore full-length album. Showcasing a newly layered, contemporary production style, the record represents an impressive leap for the group PopMatters calls “the best new live band in America.” Explorer is a travelogue of sorts, it was written over two years and one presidential election—all while the band was touring the globe and fielding questions about our leaders, our choices, our guns. If Paradise turned a mirror on America in 2016, Explorer looks outward, confronting uncertainty about the future, and the challenges of representing America abroad during a time of unprecedented volatility at home.

Con Brio will tour the U.S. and Europe in support of Explorer throughout the remainder of 2018. (See dates below.)
