Sennheiser's 'Gear Up and Cash In' Program Provides Upgrade Path for Wireless Microphone Users in Light of Spectrum Reallocation

Old Lyme, Conn., June 28, 2016 – Audio specialist Sennheiser announced 'Gear Up and Cash In', a new rebate program offering customers up to $200 towards the purchase of select new Sennheiser wireless systems. The 'Gear Up and Cash In' program is one of the several measures Sennheiser has undertaken to assist its customer base and the audio community at large as it faces a repurposing of spectrum in the UHF band following an 'incentive auction' that will impact thousands of wireless microphone users across the U.S. in the coming years. In addition to the 'Gear Up and Cash In' program, Sennheiser also already announced a new A1 frequency variant for its popular ew 100 G3 wireless microphone series and the ew 300 IEM G3 wireless monitoring series, available starting July.

BASSBOSS New LA88 Line Array: High Performance in a Compact Form Factor

LA88 Line Array Features Stunning Clarity and Impressive Power in a Compact Chassis, Suitable for a Wide Range of Applications

Austin, TX – June 22, 2016: Austin-based powered loudspeaker manufacturer BASSBOSS introduces its LA88 small-format line array, perfectly suited for clubs, festivals and a range of other indoor and outdoor applications. The LA88 is designed to deliver unsurpassed fidelity with a flat frequency response, along with high output, a broad coverage pattern, and a long throw. Equally impressive is the form factor of the LA88, which is lightweight, durable and attractive. A built-in 3000W class D amplifier allows the LA88 to outperform any other speaker in its class — all while retaining BASSBOSS’s trademark plug-and-play setup and reliable operation.

A Massive Sonic Output in a Miniscule Footprint
“We designed the LA88 line array to offer extensive output from a minimal frontal area,” explains BASSBOSS President and Founder David Lee. “By employing a narrow aperture wave-guide and then rapidly transitioning the output to a flat fascia, the LA88 is able to deliver up to 140 degrees of coverage, reaching oft-neglected audience areas to the far left and right of speaker hangs.” Ready to fly at a lean 55 lbs each, the LA88’s dimensions (25.25” wide x 19.5” deep and 9.75” high) can hang with an overall width of 28.5” with rigging pins inserted in the flyware, leaving clean sight lines and the ability to pass through 30” doors while pinned together on their optional transport and ground-support cart.

The LA88 also delivers remarkable bass output for its size, delivering +-3 db from 50Hz to 18,000Hz in full-range mode. Subwoofer integration also enables the LA88 to deliver even higher levels of output by activating satellite mode, which engages a high-pass filter that maximizes midrange output. BASSBOSS offers flyware-compatible 15”, 18” and 21” subwoofers that can fly above or serve as support platforms below the LA88s.

Antelope Audio Expands Ecosystem of Authentic FPGA Vintage Product Recreations with Vintage Pack 2-0

Unlocking the Power of Antelope's Proprietary FPGA Technology, Antelope’s Latest Suite of Studio Tools Captures the Classic Sounds of Coveted Rack Units and Amps

Nashville, TN, June 23, 2016 — Clocking, conversion and effects technology expert Antelope Audio [Summer NAMM booth 343] has announced updates and additions to its collection of authentic digital recreations of classic vintage recording gear. The hardware-powered FX contained in Vintage Pack 2.0, which leverage Antelope's proprietary FPGA engine, bring an even wider set of production tools to users of Antelope's popular Orion Studio, Zen Tour and Goliath Thunderbolt interfaces. With hardware-based real-time processing, Antelope Audio’s FPGA effects technology allows users to process their audio with the speed and musicality of real hardware, while leveraging the speed and routing flexibility of digital effects.

Guitars that Really Rip
Antelope Audio has already established its prowess in guitar amp and cabinet simulations through its collaboration with Overloud Audio — which has since resulted in three head-turning versions of classic amplifiers. The Top30 captures the timeless sound of the British Invasion, from clean to crunch, just like the original vintage combo amp. The Darkface is a tribute to another classic amp of the 60s, delivering the heart of vintage rock, jazzy, country, and blues while preserving the natural tone of the guitar even at high volumes. Meanwhile, the Modern has all the gain you could desire on tap for searing leads and chugging rhythm parts, while retaining the musicality of the classic modern tube amp on which it’s based.

Currently, Antelope is expanding its offerings with no less than seven brand new simulations of classic British stacks, channeling the coveted high-gain, crunch, and clean sounds that defined the late 60s, 70s, and 80s. Antelope’s FPGA technology provides unprecedented responsiveness, making each of these amp and cabinet models sound more authentic than anything else on the market.

Antelope Audio's Marcel James, Director of Sales for the U.S., will be on hand to demonstrate the interfaces, which are ideal for guitarists.

Also present will be guitarist Todd Lombardo, who will demonstrate Antelope's new digital simulations while performing at the booth. Lombardo's credits include studio performances with Lady Antebellum,  Zac Brown Band, J.D. Souther and many others.

We are anxious to recruit an entirely new user base of guitarists at this year's Summer NAMM."

Sennheiser Stands by Wireless Microphone Users with Support and Innovation, in Light of Pending Spectrum Reallocation

Old Lyme, Conn., June 23, 2016 – The wireless spectrum reallocation — which is underway through a process called the 'incentive auction' — will have a direct impact on thousands of wireless microphone users across the country. As a leading global manufacturer of microphones and wireless systems, Sennheiser is committed to supporting its customer base through its support channels and relentless product innovation — including the recently announced A1 range, a new frequency variant for its popular evolution wireless ew 100 G3 and ew 300 IEM G3 series.

For the benefit of Sennheiser customers and the broader audio community at large, following is a brief Q&A that describes the key spectrum issues facing wireless microphone users, and how Sennheiser is helping them navigate and overcome these issues.

What is happening?
To accommodate the increasing demand for mobile broadband services in North America, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Department of Industry of Canada (IC) have agreed on a future reallocation of spectrum in the UHF band in order to accommodate demands for mobile broadband. The 600 MHz range, which is currently used for TV broadcast and wireless microphones, and possibly the upper range of the 500 MHz band, will be repurposed based on the results of a spectrum auction. For wireless microphone users, this means that many of the UHF TV channels used today may no longer be available for microphone usage in the future.

Also included are the ultra-stylized articulations of three different classical snare drums along with flexible variations of sleighbells, tambourines, triangles, castanets, bell tree and more, performed with multiple round robins and recorded with pristine audio fidelity.

Orchestral Percussion is the sequel to IK's much-acclaimed Cinematic Percussion Instrument Collection that is now being used on film, TV and pop productions the world over. Specific instruments were chosen for Orchestral Percussion to perfectly complement the Cinematic Percussion set with no redundancy or overlap. Intimacy over Alcohol: How Enchanted Forest Gathering Creates a Safe Environment for all Forms of Expression

Black Oak Ranch, CA - With just over a month to go before NorCal’s Enchanted Forest Gathering opens up its hallowed gates for bass music aficionados, yogis and families alike, the cultural dialogue on alcohol-free events continues to grow. With five years of wind at its back, EFG’s position on the subject has now become one of its key distinguishing features. Festival founder, Tulku explains, “By bringing together thousands of people and removing the vibration of alcohol, we have created a truly unique gathering. We consistently get the reflection from women that they feel safe here and more free to express themselves. Our Security team actually gives us a discount because there are never any fights that break out and our festival grounds are left much more pristine throughout the event. The level of connection found here is more coherent and authentic.”

While alcohol may not be present, EFG hosts no less of a party atmosphere with an emphasis on conscious movement and dance, as a return to our bodies and an alternative to alcohol. From embracing #FreeTheNipple, to a literal non-stop Saucy Spa shower party, the lack of alcohol and mutual coherent respect of one another, along with a manageable and capped attendance create an intimacy and inspiration for self-expression that isn’t found at any other festival in the US.

Native Instruments Releases Free REAKTOR Blocks 1.2 Update

Native Instruments released the free REAKTOR Blocks 1.2 update. Blocks 1.2 adds major improvements for integrating hardware into REAKTOR-based setups. The update adds three new utilities, as well as introducing a MASCHINE sequencer and a set of eight drum modules designed to recreate the sound of a legendary drum machine. Coinciding with the release is a new series of tutorials demonstrating Blocks integration. The Blocks 1.2 update is available for free via the NI Service Center.

REAKTOR Blocks 1.2 brings several new Blocks to Native Instruments’ rack-style modular framework. The Pitch CV Out Block sends pitch CV and Gate signals to external hardware. Convenient auto-calibration tunes oscillators and calibrates the pitch CV signal sent out of REAKTOR. Calibration can be saved per snapshot. The Gates and Triggers Block generate up to four gates and triggers from incoming signals, allowing users to ping filters, trigger function generators and envelopes, clock sequencers, and much more. The MIDI Out module converts pitch and gate information from any Blocks patch into MIDI signals for controlling external MIDI gear. The module also functions as a four-channel CV to MIDI CC converter. These new devices also expand REAKTOR’s existing OSC capability, allowing users to transform incoming OSC signals into MIDI or CV/gate signals to control their external hardware.

REAKTOR Blocks 1.2 also marks the release of nine new Blocks that add enhanced functionality to MASCHINE and dedicated drum voices to the REAKTOR Blocks framework. The MASCHINE Sequencer Block is an eight-channel trigger sequencer designed to control Blocks patches directly the MASCHINE MK2 controller. The sequencer also features a Euclidean pattern generator that automatically creates new polyrhythmic structures within a sequence. The MASCHINE Sequencer Block is available free in the NI User Library. Niji Drum Blocks are eight drum modules that recreate the sound of a legendary drum machine. Combining these voices with the MASCHINE sequencer allows users to create their own custom drum machines.

Released in conjunction with the Blocks 1.2 update, Owen Vallis of the online education platform Kadenze has created a series of tutorials demonstrating how to integrate a setup – including hardware – with the new Blocks included in the update.

The Blocks 1.2 update is available free via the NI Service Center.

Sennheiser launches new frequency variant for evolution wireless

Old Lyme, Conn., June 16, 2016 – With the forthcoming changes in spectrum allocation in the USA and Canada, audio specialist Sennheiser is anticipating future customer needs with the release of a new frequency variant of its popular evolution wireless ew 100 G3 and ew 300 IEM G3 series. From July, the wireless microphone and monitoring systems will be available in an A1 variant, which covers the frequency range from 470 to 516 MHz.

To accommodate the increasing demand for mobile broadband services in North America, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Department of Industry of Canada (IC) have agreed on a future reallocation of spectrum in the UHF band. The 600 MHz range, which is currently used for TV broadcast and wireless microphones, will be repurposed based on the results of a spectrum auction.

Sennheiser has prepared for future spectrum reallocation with the launch of a new frequency variant for two of its most popular wireless series, offering its customers an additional solution today that is ready for the demands of future years. The ew 100 G3 wireless microphone series and the ew 300 IEM G3 wireless monitoring series (all systems and single components) will be produced in an additional A1 frequency variant for operation between 470 MHz and 516 MHz.

Martin Fischer, product manager for Sennheiser’s Live Performance & Music segment: “While the process of spectrum reallocation in North America is expected to take several years, including a transitional stage, we are creating these new versions well in advance of the changes to ensure that customers seeking a high-quality wireless solution today can enjoy the brilliant flexibility and features of evolution wireless into the foreseeable future.”

ew 100 G3-A1 and ew 300 IEM G3-A1 will become available in the U.S. and Canada from July 2016.

Native Instruments releases free MASCHINE 2.4.5 Software Update

Berlin, June 15, 2016 – Native Instruments today released the latest free update for their acclaimed MASCHINE family of production tools. The MASCHINE 2.4.5 software provides a new set of features for working with samples within the MASCHINE software. Additional improvements include new ways to work within the Scene paradigm in MASCHINE, new options for audio export, default plug-in settings and more. The MASCHINE 2.4.5 software update is free for all owners of the MASCHINE 2 software and is available now via Service Center.

MASCHINE’s latest update includes a new option for working with samples in Manual slicing mode. Users can now insert slice points on MASCHINE’s pads while the sample is playing – a fast and intuitive way to begin the process of turning a sampled piece of audio into an original composition. A new Variable Scene Length feature allows Scene lengths to be set independent of the length of patterns, making polyrhythms easier to create and freeing producers from extending a pattern just to fit the scene it resides in. Internal plug-in settings are now savable as defaults, accelerating workflow by instantly loading with popular settings defined by the user.

In addition to these primary improvements, MASCHINE 2.4.5 also features the ability to export Scenes as audio, to export audio as lossless .AIFF files and browsing by product groups – especially useful when searching for third-party plug-ins using the Native Kontrol Standard® (NKS) file format.

P!NK Takes to the Skies and Adele Takes Home the Prize During 2016 Billboard Music Awards

(Photo credit: Getty Images, Kevin Winter)

Las Vegas, NV, June 14, 2016: The evening was electric at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards on May 22, fueled by performances by P!NK, Madonna, Blake Shelton, Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes and Gwen Stefani – all of whom used Sennheiser microphones and wireless systems. Adele, who is currently on tour with Sennheiser’s Digital 9000 wireless system, captured the evening’s top accolade: Billboard Artist of the Year.

Once again, ATK Audiotek delivered first-rate audio services during the high-profile awards show, which was broadcast live to a national U.S. audience by ABC, reaching 9.6 million viewers and dominating Sunday night’s prime-time viewership. Sennheiser microphones delivered flawless audio for many of the evening’s stage performances – both for television viewers at home, as well as those present at the brand new 20,000-capacity T-Mobile arena.

Flying High at the Billboard Awards
Among the evening’s highlights was P!NK’s superb aerial performance of her new single, “Just Like Fire”, during which she donned a hidden, bespoke wireless microphone system from Sennheiser. “Sennheiser created a customized headmic with an HSP 4 cardioid capsule – this allows her to to fly right in front of the P.A. with no issues,” commented Horst Hartmann, monitor engineer for P!NK. “This system works very well, looks great and is very small – we have had tremendous support from Sennheiser on this solution from the very beginning.”

While there were no less than three days of production rehearsals to prepare for the show, Hartmann was certain that P!NK’s performance would be nothing short of perfect: “P!NK’s aerobatics are not so much of a challenge anymore, because we’ve done this on tour more than 160 times!” Hartmann relies on a Sennheiser SK 5212 bodypack transmitter that is concealed in P!NK’s costume, which sends audio to an EM 3732-II dual-channel receiver. “The reason we use the 3732-II is because it has 184 MHz switching bandwidth,” explains Hartmann. “This means we can go anywhere in the world and never have any issues finding available frequencies.”

The Accent player is available as AAX64, VST2 and AU and supports sample rates up to 96kHz with a resolution of 24 bits.  Accent also includes it’s own internal effects (Gain, Filter, 4 Band EQ, Compressor, Limiter, Gate and  Reverb) as well as has support for 3rd party plugins (VST2, VST3 and AU on OSX and VST2 and VST3 on Windows).  With a resizable user interface and familiar DAW style Mixer users should find it comfortable to use.

"Allen Sides and I are thrilled to reintroduce a few kits from our original, award winning library," commented Steven Miller.  "The powerful Accent engine provides the perfect format for users to experience the flexibility of our discrete, multi-microphone recording technique, "mix quality" pre sets, and high resolution, audiophile sound."

The samples are formatted for Platinum Samples Accent and are available at 96kHz/24 bit.

This library includes four full kits with Crash, Splash, China and Ride cymbals plus four bonus Kick and Snare drums. The Kicks and Toms were recorded with the snare strainer both on and off. Each snare drum is recorded with two microphone options: Shure SM57 and AKG C12A. All kits also include 3 sets of stereo room microphones.

Sides and Miller also created 6 "mix presets" per kit to instantly provide record quality. These mixes are continuously adjustable and range from completely dry to extremely ambient, utilizing the 3 sets of stereo room microphones that reveal Studio B's thunderous acoustics.

The samples are formatted for Platinum Samples Accent and are available at 96kHz/24 bit. Also included are the Platinum Samples Grooves Volume 1 formatted for Accent with over 2,000 groove variations.

Audio Professor Touts Audient ASP8024, Adds iD22 For Portability

Kansas City (June 2, 2016) - Kansas City Kansas Community College has been a proud owner of an Audient ASP8024 for over 6 years, a decision that Professor of Audio Recording & Music Technology, Dr Ian Corbett still stands by, having seen hundreds of students hone their audio engineering skills on the large format analogue mixing console. The notion to add an iD22 to his teaching arsenal this year was born out of that trust in Audient. Dr Corbett uses his new audio interface in his office to grade assignments, as well as with his laptop, which he uses extensively throughout the curriculum, at various places throughout the campus and also when travelling and representing the college, presenting at conferences and conventions.

He explains, "Tired of carting around a full rack unit interface, or suffering the hums and buzzes of the laptop's built-in audio output, the iD22 was a small solution that also sounds better than the smaller 'budget' interfaces available - particularly important when I'm giving a presentation on audio quality! It also gives me the flexibility to be able to make great sounding recordings directly into the computer, and get reliable readings from a test mic when pinking or sweep-tone analyzing a room. The fact that the iD22 can function as a playback device without external power was an unexpected plus point and convenience."

"A curriculum with extensive study and hands-on experience of the analog signal path, promotes essential signal flow and troubleshooting skills that will transfer to the widest variety of potential employment situations." - Dr Ian Corbett

IK Multimedia releases VocaLive 3 for iPhone and iPad - adds Mic Room, 4-track looper, simultaneous multi-track recording

IK Multimedia, the leader in mobile music making software, apps and accessories, is proud to announce VocaLive 3, a major update to the professional, full-featured vocal effects and production suite for iPhone and iPad.  VocaLive 3 gives vocalists the effects and tools they need to create and perform stunning vocals for live settings and for recordings on-the-go, at any time, anywhere.

VocaLive 3 is a complete Vocal effects processing and recording suite that lets vocalists create stunning vocal tracks on their iPhone or iPad.  It features 5 vocal effects - Pitch Fix, Choir, Morph, De-esser, and Doubler, plus 7 utility studio effects - Reverb, Delay, Parametric EQ, Compressor, Chorus, Phazer and Envelope Filter. Users can add up to 4 effects in the processor chain and use their iPhone or iPad to perform live or record with its integrated, expanded Recorder/DAW. VocaLive is designed for use with IK's extensive iRig line of digital and analog microphones, and audio interfaces, including: iRig Mic Studio, iRig Mic HD, iRig PRO and iRig Pro DUO.

New available features in VocaLive 3 include: IK's Mic Room microphone modeling technology*, an integrated 4-track looper*, and the ability to record up to 8 audio tracks simultaneously*, plus one additional effects slot in the iPhone version.

Mic Room - a microphone choice for every voice
VocaLive 3 has a new available "Mic Room" - microphone modeling feature that lets users choose from 20 different studio microphone emulations and add the sound and coloration of some of the recording world's most coveted microphones. Musicians, broadcasters and engineers simply select which input microphone they're using, and then choose the microphone model they want it to sound like in VocaLive 3. Vocal tracks previously recorded in the recorder may also be "re-miked" to achieve a more perfected or specific sound. Mic Room features the definitive collection of vintage and modern dynamic, condenser, ribbon and specialty microphones.

Loop in creativity
VocaLive 3 also features a new available 4-track looper.  The looper is extremely intuitive to use and may be activated and controlled via any iOS compatible MIDI controller, like IK's iRig BlueBoard Bluetooth wireless pedalboard, iRig Pads, or any standard MIDI controller connected via iRig MIDI 2. Users simply activate the first loop channel and perform, then hit stop when finished to set the loop length. Additional vocal loops can be recorded and activated for the ultimate in creative vocal exploration and development of melody, harmony and lyrical concepts. Each "loop" channel features its own volume control for mixing, and loops can be exported for use in the DAW/Recorder or shared.

Simultaneous multi-track recording
Now users can enjoy up to 8 channels of simultaneous multi-track recording with the available built-in DAW-like mixer in VocaLive 3. The Recorder/Studio section provides users with an integrated comprehensive multi-track recording studio with all the features found in the most popular desktop setups.  Users have access to 8 tracks with Pan, level mute, solo, effects arm and record enable, dual sends per channel into a master effects section, DAW-style editing and waveform display. VocaLive allows musicians to create complete works of art without having to leave the app and disrupt the creative flow.

Reign with the chain
VocaLive 3 provides an array of utility and FX processing tools in the form of virtual stompboxes that can be set up in a chain of up to 4 slots in both the iPhone and iPad versions. Once the effects chain is defined, users can control effects with a MIDI controller like the iRig BlueBoard, and save their virtual setups and configurations as presets for easy recall on the fly.

Pricing and availability
VocaLive 3 for iPhone and iPad are now available from the App Store for just $19.99. Previous users of the full version of VocaLive may update to version 3 at no cost.

*The Mic Pack ($9.99), Looper ($9.99), All FX pack ($19.99) and Recorder/Studio ($19.99) are available as in-app purchases.

Free versions of VocaLive are also available from the App Store.
