Hawktail to Release Debut Album Unless on May 11
Nashville, TN -- March 20 -- Hawktail (Haas Kowert Tice Leslie) are pleased to announce the release of their debut album, Unless, produced by Chris Eldridge (The Punch Brothers), available everywhere on May 11. Today, Fretboard Journal names Hawktail as one of their “favorite new groups” and premieres the album’s title track “Unless” -- listen here.
This
album is a mixture of recordings from a studio (House of Blues in
Nashville, TN), a church (Downtown Presbyterian in Nashville, TN), their
bassist’s house, and two live shows (recorded in California at Harlow’s
in Sacramento and The Old Steeple in Ferndale).
The band’s beginnings were simple: Haas Kowert Tice asked the question, what if? After
forging their own brand of roots music—one grounded in timeless
tradition, crafted by top-shelf musicianship, and performed with
jubilant comradery—the question emerged. What if this trio of America's finest string players became a quartet?
Brittany
Haas, whose 2004 self-titled release instantly became the touchstone
for a generation of old-time fiddlers, has since lent her sound to
Crooked Still, Live From Here, Michael Daves, and David Rawlings, where
she plays alongside Paul Kowert, well known as Punch Brothers’ virtuosic
bass player. Jordan Tice is a rare guitar player whose music showcases
his unique identity and a particular knack for tune-writing.
Enter
Dominick Leslie, the versatile mandolinist whose rhythmic sensibility
has made him ubiquitous on the acoustic music scene (Noam Pikelny, The
Deadly Gentlemen, Brotet). The trio wanted the rhythmic backbone he
offered and another plectrum to balance the dueling bows of bass and
fiddle. His addition thickened the sound and tightened the groove,
opening new creative doors.
Reborn a foursome, they recorded Unless, Hawktail's debut. “It feels as though this is now a whole band capable of doing anything,” says Haas. “The music of Unless
represents hours of creation, founded on our years as close friends.
And I think you can hear that,” she continues. Kowert adds, “We strove
to write strong tunes that could take us to different places while
holding to a simple form, for a natural music that breathes. Melodies
and basslines arrived together with a core sound, and arrangements
seemed encoded in the tunes.”
With Unless, Hawktail
has delivered an album of original instrumental music that showcases
their unique talents. The inclusiveness of that extends beyond the
speakers: a finger on the string, a rush of energy when you didn’t
expect it - this is music made to be enjoyed.
They began touring together as Hawktail in November ‘17 (during which the three live tracks on Unless
were recorded). This April, they will tour heavily in support of the
new album, with noteworthy stops at Savannah Music Festival, Club
Passim, Club Helsinki, and Rams Head On Stage, among other legendary
acoustic listening rooms. Onward from there, they will perform at
various festivals this summer and beyond.

Gamechanger Audio Launch PLASMA Pedal Pre-orders and Innovative Online Testing Platform
Audio effects innovators and creators of Plus Pedal, Gamechanger Audio inform that their latest
invention PLASMA Pedal is now available for pre-order.
The pre-order campaign is now live on Indiegogo funded 310% within the first 5 hours and with over 550 backers they've raised over $90,000:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/plasma-pedal-high-voltage-distortion-unit-guitar-rock#/
As part of their campaign, Gamechanger Audio is introducing an innovative try-before- you-buy
online testing platform which allows anyone to upload a sound sample, dial in their desired settings
using a set of remote controlled electric motors, and hear and see their track being turned into high
voltage distortion via Youtube Livestream.

Go to www.plasmapedal.com to take PLASMA Pedal for a test-drive.
PLASMA Pedal was first unveiled in January at this year’s Winter NAMM show where it took the
press by storm and received wide critical acclaim from the industry’s leading gear experts and
countless professional musicians.
By creating PLASMA Pedal, Gamechanger Audio are marking a new chapter in the evolution of
overdrive, distortion and fuzz effects.
Instead of using traditional LED circuits, transistors or vacuum tubes to produce overdrive, the
PLASMA Pedal transforms your instrument’s live signal into a series of continuous high-voltage
discharges within a xenon-filled tube. In essence – you are playing a bolt of electricity, and the
electrical discharges produced by your instrument are instantly converted back into an analog audio
signal, producing a quick, responsive, and extremely heavy distortion.
The first PLASMA Pedal batches are scheduled to ship in August 2018. This will be the second
crowdfunding campaign created by Gamechanger Audio, following the success of PLUS Pedal which
went up for pre-orders in January 2017 and was shipped to early backers within 7 months.
Check out www.gamechangeraudio.com for more info and don’t forget to take a live test drive of

UK Music Fan Tips Off California's DECENT CRIMINAL To Kendrick Lamar Vinyl Snafu
Band Announces Spring Tour Dates with Teenage Bottlerocket, Direct Hit!
A UK music fan has contacted California punk outfit DECENT CRIMINAL
via social media to inform them that a vinyl copy of Kendrick Lamar's
multi-platinum selling album, 'Good Kid, M.A.A.D City,' purchased by her
boyfriend at an HMV store, erroneously contains a portion of Decent
Criminal's music on it.
Dodgeball
Records head Chris Messer explains: "Hunter from DC got a message on
Facebook from a girl claiming her boyfriend bought a Kendrick Lamar
record and when playing it discovered Decent Criminal's music was on one
half of it. She wanted to make them aware of it. Then sent a clip of the record. They were in shock and wrote me to see if I knew about it."
Apparently, the two records were pressed by the same company in the Czech Republic, which could explain the mixup.
DECENT CRIMINAL is going on tour in March, playing select shows with Teenage Bottlerocket and Direct Hit!

While
blending elements reminiscent of 90's alternative, garage rock, surf
punk and power-pop, DECENT CRIMINAL, offer catchy, upbeat songs that
mercilessly collide with abrasive and often melancholy undertones, to
bring forth a style that's playfully compatible while still feeling
inadvertently raw.
