We've long wanted to do more with our SMART parameter mapping device but we felt as if we'd pushed it as far as MaxforLive would allow us, well that was until we got a helping hand from Sebastian of Chaos Culture. We loved his user definable envelopes in Freak-Q and wanted to do the same with SMART's curves.
The result is more than just a lick of paint update (which nonetheless was needed and now follows your chosen theme color in Ableton Live) but an even easier to use SMART device that has (at last) integration with Live 10 and the Ableton Push 2.

The device was originally built from inspiration of the original controllerist Matt Moldover who'd posted in the now dearly departed controlerism.com forum about Smart mixing and the deeper mapping of Ableton Lives macros.
The screenshot above gives a flavour of what the device is about. It's got 8 individual Curve dials along with a master SMART Dial, as you modulate the master it in turn controls the eight individual curves and that's where the fun starts.
Ableton Live Macro mapping functionality limits you to setting a range, mapping many parameters to the same macro and you can't actually control when each parameter starts to become active without some complicated workarounds and compromises.
SMART makes life easy in this regard, open up the floating window and map to parameters within your Live set, as with Macro Mapping you can set the range for the Min & Max and then you can define how each parameter will behave as the dial is turned.

You can define each SMART Curve with unlimited numbers of break points and curves. The example above shows a simple DJ inspired set of Treble, Mid and Bass which as the SMART Dial is turned will turn down the Bass first, then the Mid and finally the Treble.
For ease of use each breakpoint when moved will give a readout of what the mapped parameters value will be at that point, taking all of the guess work and trial and error out of things!
One of the things that was a challenge was getting any form of usable information on the Push 2 screen. With the release of SMART FIVE we've managed this by updating the display with the names of each parameter that a curve is mapped to.

SMART as ever remains as part of the Modular Series along with Follow FIVE and this update is free to existing subscribers (just log into your account to download)
